Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be played in casinos across the world, or in your house on your computer, using a net connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the best combination of cards possible in order to come away with money. On this account it is much the same as a normal game of poker, without the interaction with any other players. Of course, tactics employed during a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the player puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A five card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and players should now pick which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.

After the gambler has decided on which cards she would like to retain, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be needed they will be dealt. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Generally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced players are agile enough to pick the most profitable machine each instance.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that they may have won. Additionally, several styles of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which instance a further game is played. There are also variations among individual machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
